The Big Event at Virginia Tech

April 5, 2014

The Big Event at Virginia Tech is a student-run community service effort that has grown into the second largest event of its kind in the nation. Every spring, thousands of students, faculty, and staff come together to complete hundreds of community service projects throughout Blacksburg, Christiansburg and the New River Valley.

Projects are completed regardless of need or socioeconomic status; instead, it is The Big Event’s goal to simply say, “Thank you.” Seeded in our university’s motto of Ut Prosim (That I may serve) students and community members come together for a truly unparalleled experience.

Build a Bike

December 9, 2017

It's time for our annual bicycle build! We'll be building bikes to provide to under-privileged children, which allows them to get to after school events, tutors, mentors, and jobs. The children earn their bikes by improving in an area agreed upon with their teacher. They make the improvement, they earn the bike.

Registration is $45 per person. Anyone age 9 or up can participate in this event!

Sign up at http://cyclehouston.org/get-involved/bike-builds/. You will see the steps for registering for the build. Choose the bike assembly period for Saturday, Dec 9 from 2pm-5pm. Sessions typically fill up very quickly and several Houston Hokies were not able to register in the past, so don't wait, sign up now!

After the bike build we'll be having our first Hokie Holiday party at Eureka Heights!

The bike build takes place at NRG Center. Parking is free, just inform the lot attendant you are with Cycle Houston. Enter NRG Park on North Stadium Drive, and park on the west side of NRG Center. Please bring the confirmation email with you. Note that you will need to sign a release for the day you volunteer.

Please wear some Hokie apparel. We will get a set of tables toward the back of the hall and work together. We will have a Virginia Tech flag on display in our work area to assist you in finding the group.
