Chapter Information

The Houston Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association serves much of Southeast Texas, including the greater Houston area and surrounding counties: Harris, Montgomery, Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Galveston. Nearly 1,200 Hokies reside in our area. We are a volunteer organization; membership is free. If you attended Virginia Tech, you are a Hokie alum and already a member. We maintain an e-mail distribution list of nearly 500 members and growing. If you'd like to join, please email houstonhokies@googlegroups.com.

Mission: The goals of our chapter are to provide an important communications link between alumni and the university, to support and promote the image and reputation of Virginia Tech, and to help alumni become more involved with fellow Hokies and their community.

Organization: The VTAA calendar year begins July 1st and ends June 30th. The chapter committee is responsible for providing an annual report on our activities to the VTAA by the end of June, and holds a planning meeting each spring to review our performance and prepare our report. This is an open meeting, as are all chapter meetings, and everyone is encouraged to participate and share feedback.

Scholarship: Through our successful fund raising efforts, we now annually award scholarships to local high school seniors who will enter Virginia Tech each Fall. Please consider a tax-deductiblecontribution to the Houston Chapter Scholarship Fund so we can keep our tradition of giving in the future. Donations also qualify for most company matching programs!

College Fairs: Each Fall, several alumni volunteers represent Virginia Tech and our chapter at local college fairs. The goals of the our participation in these fairs are to familiarize local high school students with the opportunities available to them at Virginia Tech, to promote the strong, positive reputation of both Tech and the town of Blacksburg, as well as to inform them of the support of our local chapter and our scholarship program. Volunteers are always welcome! Please contact the College Fairs Coordinator on the officers page.

Community Service: In keeping with our university motto, UT Prosim, "That I may serve", the support we provide to our community is a very important aspect of our chapter. Donations for the Houston Food Bank are collected at all of our football game watching parties. Further opportunities to volunteer at the Food Bank may be arranged as well.

Social Events: The Houston Chapter hosts several social events throughout the year:
            • Annual family picnic
            • VT football and basketball game watching parties
            • Monthly downtown lunch gatherings
            • Receptions with distinguished guest speakers
            • Outings at the professional sports teams in Houston

We are always open to new ideas that will bring Hokies together. If you are interested in participating in or helping with any of our many activities, please look for opportunities on our website and contact our chapter president or any of the other officers for more information.
